New Year's Day

Sarah, Caroline and Kyler (Caroline's little friend) were heading to a movie on January 1, 2009 at 7:30pm. They took our 2003 Toyota Sequoia. With everyone securely buckled in they left the driveway and started the 7 minute drive to Concord Mills Mall...

They never made it out of the neighborhood.

Some guy decided he was going to drive drunk that night. He crossed left of center going 45MPH in his Infiniti and slammed into Sarah (she was going 35MPH). The force tore the left front wheel off the Sequoia at the axle. No one had time to brake and after impact he spun out to the sidewalk and caught on fire because his foot was locked on the accelerator. Sarah's airbags deployed and she slid another 20ft before coming to a stop. The impact was so loud neighbors came out of their homes to see what had happened.

All three girls walked away! Check the video...

The man that hit them remained passed out in his vehicle with the rear end in flames. Had it not been for the bravery of neighbors and those driving up on the scene he would have died from the smoke and flames. They broke a window and dragged him out to safety. Fire, Police and Medics arrived and attended to the scene. Sarah and the girls were transported to CMC University and released that night.

The irony...

In 1993 my first wife was killed in a head on collision with a drunk driver... She was 7mos pregnant at the time. You can read about that at Defining Providence.

The pictures below tell the story of God's amazing protection... I am so thankful!

Please continue to pray for Sarah. She is extremely sore and will be needing physical therapy. Pray for the man that hit them. Jesus died for him too!

I appreciate all the support from my family @ the Branch... This is going to be the best year ever!
