“A Simple Thing”

Pastor Walter Hoefflin

2 Kings 3:18

“And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord;” (NKJV)

“That simple thing isn't all the LORD is going to do.” (NCV)

This is but a light thing in the sight of the Lord.” (AMP)

“This is an easy thing in the eyes of the LORD; (NIV)

1 Timothy 4:14

“Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.”

2 Timothy 1:6-7

“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

  • Stir Up: Fan into a flame
  • The Holy Spirit never generates fear in us, but rather power, love and a sound mind. (discipline & self-control)
    • HS gives us the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22)
    • Our love for God, the Word and other believers comes from the Spirit. (Rom 5:5)
    • HS also gives us the discipline and self-control; as a result we are not easily captured by our feelings or circumstances.
    • When the HS is in control, we will experience that promised peace.

Psalm 121:1-3, 8

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.”

Psalm 118:6, 8-9

“The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.”

John 14:12-14 (NCV)

I tell you for certain that if you have faith in me, you will do the same things that I am doing. You will do even greater things, now that I am going back to the Father. Ask me, and I will do whatever you ask. This way the Son will bring honor to the Father. I will do whatever you ask me to do.”

1 Thessalonians 2:13

“For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.”
