On July the 8th, 2010, April and I are headed to Thailand to join Todd and Julie Powers. They have been missionaries to the 10/40 Window for about 7 years. We will be visiting their orphanages there and in Myanmar among other serving opportunities. April and I have never been to either country so we are really excited about it. Thank you to the people of the The Branch Family Church for helping us get there!
Thailand actually means “Land of the Free.” It has never been controlled by Western powers. It is the only nation in Southeast Asia that has maintained its freedom. The people believe that a special guardian angel has protected them, and a golden image has been worshipped since it was made. For many, to be Thai is to be Buddhist. Few have dared to venture outside the complex mesh of culture, appeasing spirits, Buddhism and occult practices. These dear people may walk in political freedom but have yet to taste of the sweet freedom in Jesus. Please pray for them.
Thailand is a country of about 66 million people. Over 92% (@ 60 million) of the people are Buddhist, over 5% (@3.3 million) are Muslim and 1.5% (less than 1 million) are Christian. Human trafficking is very prevalent in the country. Some estimate that more than 5 million children are involved in child labor. So many in this influential nation need our prayers- (Matthew 9:36-38, II Thess. 3:1).
Thank you for praying for us as well!
